Georgian College's Campus Gallery presents Aanikoobijiganag/Generations, an exhibition that brings together artwork created by grandparents, parents and children of the Cunnington and Shilling families. The show groups contemporary work by Tanya Cunnington and Bewabon Shilling with pieces by their parents, grandparents and the next generation to trace shared artistic knowledge and memory. Media include painting, drawing and quillwork, and the exhibition reflects connections between ancestors and descendants as well as lived experience. Students in the museum and gallery studies program curated the exhibition in partnership with Indigenous studies and the Wiidookdaading Indigenous Resource Centre.
Exhibition details:
- Aanikoobijiganag/Generations runs Jan. 5 to Feb. 1, 2026, at The Campus Gallery on Georgian College's Barrie campus (Room 140, D Building, Helen and Arch Brown Centre for Design and Visual Arts).
- Featured contemporary artists are Tanya Cunnington and Bewabon Shilling, with additional work by Dora Benson, Annie Kmyta Cunnington, Maria Kmyta, Arthur Shilling and Cal Shilling.
- Works on display include painting, drawing and quillwork that honor memory, place and lived experience while showing intergenerational continuity.
- The exhibition was curated by students in the museum and gallery studies program to provide experiential learning and close collaboration with artists and community partners.
- Presentation partners and support include Indigenous studies, the Wiidookdaading Indigenous Resource Centre and the Ontario Arts Council.
