The Trach Sports Academy at Carlton Comprehensive is continuing to grow after the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division changed partners this year. The division moved from the Global Sports Academy to a new partnership with Jordan Trach and his team to provide skill development and athletic training. Superintendent Jeff Court reported the program now serves 105 student athletes across three streams: high school hockey, Grade 7–8 hockey and a high school multi-sport program. Director of education Neil Finch said enrollment has steadily increased and that the first year with Trach went well.
Key details:
- The program reported 105 student athletes in three programs, compared with 90 enrolled last year.
- Roughly 80 students participate in the hockey program (Grades 6–12) and about 25 are in the Grade 9–12 multi-sport program.
- The academy began with 19 students in 2020 and rose to 39 in 2022 before the more recent growth.
- The program draws mostly from Prince Albert with some rural students joining as well.
- Grade 7–8 students come from Red Wing, École Vickers, École Arthur Pechey and Osborne Schools, with Vickers supplying the majority.
- Program offerings include sport-specific training, sports therapy, nutrition education, flexible learning options, classroom leadership work and a blended learning environment for older students.
Summary:
The program's growth reflects rising interest across the division and broader offerings under the new partner. Undetermined at this time.
