TransLink and the City of Vancouver are rolling out changes along the Main Street–Kingsway corridor to improve bus speed and reliability. Initial bus stop location adjustments for the No. 19 route will begin on Feb. 2, 2026. The project also plans expanded curbside bus lanes and new intersection restrictions later in 2026. The work responds to closely spaced stops and turning-vehicle conflicts that slow buses.
Key details:
- About a dozen No. 19 stop locations between Stanley Park and Boundary Road will be adjusted starting Feb. 2, 2026; one stop will be permanently removed and three new stops added.
- More than 90 per cent of riders will continue using their existing stop, and relocated stops are typically about one city block from the previous location.
- TransLink reports about 70 per cent of No. 19 stops are closer than the 300-metre optimal spacing, prompting "bus stop balancing" to spread stops more evenly.
- Later in 2026 the City and TransLink expect to expand curbside parking restrictions, extend bus lane hours on Main Street and Kingsway, lengthen no-stopping zones, and restrict some peak-hour left turns at selected intersections.
- The No. 19 was TransLink's ninth busiest route in 2024 with 4.378 million annual boardings, and several other busy routes share portions of the same corridor.
Summary:
The planned stop spacing adjustments and forthcoming curbside and intersection measures are intended to reduce delays and improve schedule reliability on the Main Street–Kingsway corridor. Initial stop changes begin Feb. 2, 2026, while finalized details on extended bus lanes and parking restrictions will be announced later in the year.
