The Links at Spanish Bay will be subject to a comprehensive redesign by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, project partners announced. The course, opened in 1987, is one of four championship courses at Pebble Beach Resorts and sits along the Monterey Peninsula coastline. Pebble Beach Company said the work will begin after the last round on March 17, 2026, and the facility is scheduled to reopen for public play on April 17, 2027. The redesign was first reported in 2023 and moves now into the construction phase.
Planned changes:
- Designers named are Gil Hanse (Hanse Golf Course Design) and Jim Wagner.
- The layout will be entirely reworked along the Monterey Peninsula coastline and will include an all-new par-3 hole.
- The project will improve drainage and irrigation systems, set irrigated turf to 12 percent, and add three more acres of environmental habitat than before.
- Pebble Beach Company described the finished course as intended to be more playable and strategic for a range of players while also challenging elite competitors.
- The course will close after play on March 17, 2026, and is scheduled to reopen on April 17, 2027; Pebble Beach Resort Reservations is reported to be accepting bookings for the reopened course.
Summary:
The redesign aims to refresh The Links at Spanish Bay’s layout, update infrastructure and increase on-site habitat while retaining its coastal character. Work will begin after play ends March 17, 2026, with a planned public reopening on April 17, 2027, ahead of the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
