Delta has activated its extreme weather response shelters for the nights of Feb. 18–20 after an alert was extended because freezing temperatures are expected. The city is operating two overnight sites, one in North Delta and one in Ladner. Each site offers basic supports and limits on capacity. The schedule and services are based on the current forecast and the Homelessness Services Association of BC announcement.
Shelter details:
- Alert and dates: The Homelessness Services Association of BC extended an extreme weather response alert; the two city EWR shelters are scheduled to operate the nights of Feb. 18–20.
- North Delta (Crossroads United Church, 7655 Scott Rd.): Women-only site open 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., with 10 inclusive spaces for self-identified women aged 19 and over; entrance is via the north door at the back of the building. The site is wheelchair accessible and pet friendly (animals kept in a kennel while inside). It does not offer cart storage, showers, or onsite laundry. Guests are provided light refreshments and are offered bus tickets and gift cards when they leave.
- South Delta (Ladner United Church, 4960 48th Ave.): Open 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., with room for up to nine guests aged 19 and over and the ability to accommodate couples. This site is operated by Options Community Services and funded by BC Housing. It offers showers and laundry facilities, is wheelchair accessible, and is pet friendly (animals must be on a leash or in a kennel while in the building). Guests are provided light refreshments and are offered bus tickets and gift cards when they leave.
