An election on Feb. 17 chose three councillors for the Katzie First Nation and the community also acclaimed its chief. The vote took place at the Katzie Health and Community Centre, with travelling polls on IR2 and IR3. A nomination meeting on Jan. 29 left Chief Grace George unopposed, and this will be her fifth term. The newly elected chief and councillors will begin a two-year term on April 1, 2026.
Election results:
- 200 ballots were cast out of 480 eligible voters.
- Incumbent Rick Bailey received 144 votes.
- Incumbent David Kenworthy received 129 votes.
- Darcy Erickson received 114 votes.
- Lisa Marie Adams received 79 votes and Elisha Cunningham received 46 votes.
Summary:
Grace George was acclaimed as chief and, together with councillors Rick Bailey, David Kenworthy, and Darcy Erickson, will serve a two-year term from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2028. The result means the current leadership team will carry the community's governance through that period.
