Pop-up waste collections being trialled across Hillingdon
Summary
Hillingdon Council is trialling pop-up waste drop collections at local community venues so households can drop up to five bulky or small electrical items for free; the pilot runs from late January until June and will be reviewed.
Content
Pop-up waste drop collections are being trialled across Hillingdon to make it easier for people to dispose of unwanted or bulky items for free. The scheme will operate at community venues on set dates between January and June. The first drop is at Charville Community Centre in Hayes on Saturday 31 January from 10am to 2pm. A second session is scheduled at the Battle of Britain Bunker Exhibition and Visitor Centre in Uxbridge on Saturday 14 February, also 10am to 2pm.
Key details:
- Sessions accept up to five items per household and are for items not collected in regular household, recycling, garden or food waste rounds.
- Accepted items include small electrical appliances (toasters, kettles, laptops, TVs), bulky waste (furniture, mattresses, bagged carpet), household items not taken in weekly collections (broken toys, wood, glass, textiles), scrap metal and garden furniture.
- Items not accepted include general household rubbish, dry mixed recycling, garden waste, hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, asbestos, petrol or diesel), car parts or tyres, pressurised containers and business waste.
- Residents must show proof of address or a HillingdonFirst card; vans and commercial vehicles will not be permitted.
- The trial runs until June and will operate in addition to the Harefield Civic Amenity Site, West Drayton Waste Weekends and the existing bulky waste collection service.
Summary:
The pilot is intended to reduce barriers for people who find it difficult to reach waste and recycling sites by bringing drop-off options to community locations. It will run alongside existing services and is scheduled to be reviewed in June to decide its future.
