Staff and a professional model carried out a styling challenge in Nightingales charity shops to show what can be created from donated clothing. Rachelle McLachlan, Marketing and Communications Manager at Nightingale House Hospice, teamed up with model Mia to style looks using only items found in the stores. They assembled 16 complete outfits across themes for different occasions. The shops form part of Nightingale House Hospice and direct their sales to support the hospice's care.
Key details:
- Sixteen outfits were styled using donated items, covering themes including winter wear, office-ready looks, casual weekend outfits, partywear and vintage-inspired styles.
- The outfits incorporated knitwear, coats, dresses and accessories such as handbags, jewellery and scarves.
- Between 1 January and 7 December 2025, Nightingales stores saved 244,450 items from landfill.
- In the same period, 69,397 items of womenswear and accessories were sold, generating £332,834 in sales.
- Nightingales charity shops are located across the region, including Wrexham, Borras, Mold, Buckley, Oswestry and Whitchurch, with a Re-Use Shop at Bryn Lane Recycling Centre.
Summary:
The styling challenge illustrated the variety and quality of pre-owned clothing available in Nightingales stores and framed second-hand shopping as a sustainable choice. Reported sales from the shops contribute to funding care at Nightingale House Hospice and the reuse totals above reflect the stores' impact on waste reduction. Future styling activities or wider plans were not announced. Undetermined at this time.
