Hannah Middleton, a Corby-based auto locksmith and YouTuber, was filming for her channel when she received a FaceTime call from fellow locksmith Harvey Rush on January 21. Harvey had become trapped inside a customer's 2004 Nissan Micra after entering through a partly opened window. He could not open the doors because they were deadlocked and a spare key inside had a dead battery. Colleagues in their UK locksmith group chat watched the video call and reacted with amusement.
What happened:
- Harvey, 28, was called to help a woman who was locked out of her Nissan Micra and used an inflatable wedge to wind the window down before climbing in with a foot stool.
- The stool tipped over while he was inside and he could not open the deadlocked doors from the passenger side. A spare key inside the car could not be used because its battery was dead.
- He rang Hannah, 38, who specialises in vehicle locks and was filming a YouTube clip, and showed his situation on FaceTime. The clip was later shared in a group chat of about 90 locksmiths across the UK.
- Harvey waited roughly 40 minutes in sub-zero temperatures until his partner Yas arrived to help. Passers-by noticed him during the incident.
- Yas propped the stool back up, helped Harvey out, and used her working key to cut a replacement key that was used to open the car door.
Summary:
The video call recorded a lighthearted rescue after a routine lockout response left a locksmith temporarily trapped inside a customer's car. The clip was shared among locksmiths and provided amusement to colleagues. Undetermined at this time.
