A much-loved vintage tea room at Damhouse in Astley closed last January after the charity that manages the site said the business was no longer sustainable. The venue reopened last summer after a full refurbishment when Merly's Kitchen, a Community Interest Company, took over its operation. It is run by Samantha Lowry with a small staff and volunteers, and offers breakfasts, afternoon teas and homemade dishes. The space has become a community hub hosting clubs and toddler sessions and also operates a Community Fridge.
