More than a dozen dogs and their owners gathered at the Tedworth House Polo Grounds in Tidworth on Sunday, February 1 for a social walk hosted by German Shepherd Rescue South. The event aimed to raise funds and awareness for dogs waiting to be rehomed. Organisers recognised familiar faces from an October walk and noted two returning dogs had grown since then. The walk was led by Max, one of the rescue's rehomed dogs.
Event highlights:
- Over a dozen dogs attended with their owners at the Tedworth House Polo Grounds on February 1.
- The walk was led by Max; Senna and Cooper, two dogs helped by the rescue, were also present. Senna was surrendered at 23 months and has since found a permanent home with a foster family in Wiltshire after being bought impulsively as a puppy.
- Cooper has been at the rescue since August 2023 and was previously unfriendly toward other dogs; organisers reported he now takes part in social walks and has formed a companion relationship with another dog.
- The event raised £85.48 in total, with proceeds to benefit German Shepherd Rescue South and the dogs in its care.
- The next social walk is planned for Sunday, March 1; it will also mark Cooper's seventh birthday and includes a tour of the heritage trail, refreshments, and a raffle, with attendees meeting at the middle car park near the community hub at 9.45am for a 10am start.
Summary:
The walk provided a chance for rehomed and in-care dogs to socialise while supporting the rescue financially. The group plans to continue the social walks, with the next event scheduled for March 1, which will also serve as a small birthday observance for Cooper.
