Aldingbourne is opening its first warm hubs at the Community Centre this winter. The initiative began in response to rising fuel bills and aims to offer a friendly indoor space for people to keep warm or meet others. The hubs are scheduled to run on set weekdays through the rest of the winter and will be available without prior booking. Organisers say the spaces include drinks, activities and internet access to support a range of visitors.
Key details:
- Opening times: Tuesdays 10am–1pm and Thursdays 12pm–3pm through the rest of the winter.
- Location: Aldingbourne Community Centre, Oliver's Meadow off Westergate Street, postcode PO20 3YA, with a large free car park.
- Offerings: Free unlimited hot drinks and biscuits, magazines, puzzle books, jigsaws, colouring books, children's games and free Wi‑Fi.
- Access: The 66a and 66c Compass buses stop on Westergate Street at the end of Oliver's Meadow.
- Organisers and supporters: ACSC manager Tamryn Buys said the hubs aim to mirror support already provided in Bognor and Chichester, and Aldingbourne Parish Council Chair Sue Foott said the council supports the new resource.
- Contact: Queries can be directed by email to Tamryn at info@acsc.org (as provided by organisers).
Summary:
The new warm hubs provide a free, indoor option for warmth, company and quiet activities in Aldingbourne for the remainder of the winter. They are sited at the Community Centre with regular weekday hours and basic transport and parking links. Organisers present the hubs as intended to help people who are isolated or facing higher heating costs. Plans beyond this winter are undetermined at this time.
