AARP Vermont is accepting applications for the 2026 AARP Community Challenge grant program through March 4 at 5 p.m. The program funds quick-action projects that improve public places, transportation, housing, digital connections and disaster resilience. This is the program's tenth year and AARP will award more than $8 million nationwide as part of its Livable Communities initiative. AARP Vermont will host an informational webinar and Q&A on Jan. 23 at noon on Zoom.

- Application deadline is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, and projects must be completed by Dec. 15, 2026.
- Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4) and 501(c)(6) nonprofit organizations and government entities; other organization types are reviewed case-by-case.
- Three grant types are offered: Flagship grants (up to $15,000) for public places and related projects; capacity-building microgrants ($2,500) paired with expert support and cohort learning; and Demonstration grants (typically $10,000–$20,000, not to exceed $25,000) for projects that can be replicated.
- Program focus areas include public spaces, transportation, housing choice and design, digital access and adoption, walkability and bikeability, safe home modifications, disaster preparedness, and pedestrian safety; Microsoft and Toyota are noted as supporters for certain demonstration grant priorities.
- Since 2017, AARP has invested $24.3 million in about 2,100 livability projects nationwide, including 40 projects in Vermont.
