On April 29, Disneyland's Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will expand its timeline to include the original Star Wars trilogy era. The change was announced in a creative briefing reported by IGN and involves Walt Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm. Classic characters will join the land and musical themes from the films will be added in new arrangements. The update is currently planned only for the Disneyland location; Walt Disney World’s Galaxy's Edge will remain the same for now.
What to expect:
- The update applies only to Disneyland; the East Coast Galaxy's Edge remains unchanged at this time.
- Darth Vader will replace Kylo Ren at Galaxy's Edge, and Kylo Ren will relocate to Tomorrowland's Star Wars Launch Bay for Disney Visa cardmembers.
- Luke Skywalker will be a permanent roaming character seeking Force knowledge, while Leia will appear near the Millennium Falcon and Han Solo will be present near the outpost.
- John Williams' themes, including the 'Main Title', 'Force Theme' and 'Cantina Band', will be heard in new arrangements across the land.
- Retail and story elements will be rethemed, such as First Order Cargo becoming Black Spire Surplus, Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities showing timeline-appropriate artifacts, and the Droid Depot operated by an earlier generation of the Mubo family.
- A Marvel comic, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge - Echoes of the Empire, is scheduled for April 22 to introduce some of the characters and their reasons for being on Batuu; Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is also set for an update that will add The Mandalorian and Grogu timed with a May 22, 2026 film release.
Summary:
The expansion brings original trilogy characters and film themes into Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland while retaining many existing attractions and food offerings. Tie-ins include a Marvel comic release on April 22 and a scheduled update to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in May 2026.
