Three crew members of Expedition 74 remain aboard the International Space Station after NASA's SpaceX Crew-11 returned to Earth. Crew-11 completed 167 days in space and splashed down off the coast of California about ten and a half hours after undocking. The on-orbit trio — Flight Engineer Chris Williams, Commander Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Flight Engineer Sergei Mikaev — arrived on Soyuz MS-28 on Thanksgiving and are scheduled to stay through the summer. NASA and international partners are preparing to add four new crewmembers to Expedition 74 when Crew-12 launches.
On-orbit activities:
- NASA astronauts Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke, JAXA astronaut Kimiya Yui, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Platonov returned to Earth after 167 days aboard the station and a SpaceX Dragon splashdown.
- Flight Engineer Chris Williams deconfigured two spacesuits in the Quest airlock, cleaned and flushed their internal water-cooling loops, powered them down, inspected them, and removed suit hardware and batteries.
- Flight Engineer Sergei Mikaev installed Earth observation hardware and programmed it to photograph landmarks from Namibia's Namib Desert to Kenya's Nabiyotum Crater at the southern tip of Lake Turkana.
- Commander Sergey Kud-Sverchkov serviced the Elektron oxygen generator in the Zvezda service module and documented the location of hardware stowed in the station's Roscosmos segment.
- Crew-12 is currently targeted to launch Feb. 15 and would join Expedition 74; the planned Crew-12 roster includes Jessica Meir, Jack Hathaway, Sophie Adenot and Andrey Fedyaev, and NASA, SpaceX and partners are working to advance the launch.
Summary:
The remaining Expedition 74 crew will continue routine research and maintenance on the station while operating on an eight-month mission schedule. Arrival of Crew-12, currently targeted for Feb. 15, is the next planned milestone for Expedition 74 and remains under coordination by NASA and international partners.
