The Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri took place at Makuhari Messe in Japan to mark the 40th anniversary of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga. Organizers used the main stage and an anniversary film to outline the franchise's next steps after Toriyama's passing. The event combined exhibits, exclusive merchandise and live game contests alongside the announcements. Several projects were given target windows and presentation dates over the next two years.
Key announcements:
- Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol was revealed; it will adapt the Moro/Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc (Chapters 42–67) of the Dragon Ball Super manga, is in production, and is scheduled for 2027.
- Dragon Ball Super: Beerus was announced as an enhanced remake of Dragon Ball Super's first arc; it is described as more faithful to the original manga, will feature redrawn cuts and revised sequences, aims to present Beerus in a more serious light, and is slated to air on Fuji TV in Fall 2026.
- A new game project currently called Age 1000 was shown with a trailer; producers said Bandai Namco began work around seven years ago, Akira Toriyama contributed worldbuilding and at least one original character for the project, the official title will be announced later, and a 2027 release window was stated. Further details are scheduled for Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 (April 18–19 in Los Angeles).
- Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO will get a described "massive" DLC this summer, with teased additions including new playable characters (such as Super Android 17 and Demon King Piccolo), new costumes, new super attacks, stages and modes. The DLC will have a theme song, "Zero," performed by Hironobu Kageyama. Separately, a free Mission 100 single-player mode DLC was confirmed for January 26 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam, with Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions to receive that DLC at a later date.
- The anniversary presentation included a special video marking 40 years of Dragon Ball, featuring music said to be composed by Hans Zimmer, and stage appearances by series staff and voice actors including Akio Iyoku and Masako Nozawa.
Summary:
The Genkidamatsuri set out a multi-year slate of Dragon Ball releases, with the Beerus remake scheduled for Fall 2026 and several new projects aiming for 2027. Game-related details will continue to appear at scheduled events such as Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026, and the Sparking! ZERO free DLC arrives on January 26 with a larger paid expansion planned for the summer.
