Shanghai has launched "Visit Shanghai: Super Spring Festival," a citywide cultural tourism campaign organized alongside the "Discover Shanghai" travel guide competition. The program focuses on intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and on integrating traditional crafts into urban festival life. Yuyuan Garden is the main venue and will host many ICH projects and performances. Activities also extend across commercial districts, historic neighborhoods and suburban towns.
Event highlights:
- The campaign brings nearly 100 ICH projects to Yuyuan Garden, with performances and demonstrations such as rolling lantern dances, Wing Chun displays, and tea-making by ICH masters.
- The citywide theme "Savoring the Warmth of Everyday Life" links markets, lantern displays, culinary events and photography competitions across Shanghai.
- Jing'an Temple commercial area will host ICH markets showcasing traditional incense-making and knot buttons, while long-established local brands will offer specialty products.
- Community workshops in Huangpu District will provide hands-on classes in knot-button making, traditional incense blending and sachet sewing led by master artisans.
- Sixty major attractions will offer half-price admission during the Spring Festival, and the official "Hu Xiaoyou" platform features hundreds of themed tourism products, including ICH experiences, science education tours and leisure cruises.
Summary:
The campaign uses ICH events, workshops and curated routes to highlight local crafts and festival traditions while connecting heritage sites across the city. It centers on Yuyuan Garden but includes programs citywide and a set of tourism incentives announced for the Spring Festival period. Further scheduling and program details were announced by the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism.
